Competition
We believe in the power of collaboration. When we compete, our goal is always to win. That’s why we approach every competition we enter with full commitment, leveraging the strength of being a large firm with broad expertise and a network of professionals across the country.
Competitions make us better
An architectural competition is an innovative and collaborative process that ensures Tengbom’s architecture is of the highest quality. By working within defined conditions such as time, budget, and creative guidelines, we constantly refine our skills with the ultimate goal of delivering exceptional architecture. The frameworks and rules around competition formats are something we view as highly positive—they drive us to become even more creative and reliable in our deliveries.
“Constantly measuring ourselves against others sharpens our skills.”

The Tengbom competition team
At Tengbom, we have a dedicated competition team composed of colleagues selected for their specific areas of expertise. The team is led by our Competition Manager, Andreas Nordström.
“With a team of architects specializing in competitions and early-stage projects, plus a nationwide network of experts in various fields, I have a level of support few can match,” says Andreas. “It’s collective intelligence at its best.”
On the right track
A well-executed competition where we collectively channel our creativity and expertise to produce the best proposal creates long-term value—not only for the client and society but also for us as architects.
“Competitions are a key part of our work at Tengbom,” says Mark Humphreys, Practice Director and Partner at Tengbom. “Constantly measuring ourselves against others sharpens our skills. When we win, we know we’re on the right track, and when an industry colleague takes the prize, it’s an excellent opportunity to humbly learn something new.”
It’s collective intelligence at its best
At Tengbom, we strategically choose to invest in and develop our competition organization. Over the past year, we’ve won the commission for Bergs locks visitor center on the Göta Canal, which was also nominated at WAF, as well as the competition for a new sports hall in Norrköping.
